Depression Treatment
Clinical depression is a very common and debilitating mental health condition. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), almost 7% of American adults (16 million individuals) had at least 1 episode of major depression within the past 12 months. There is often a public misconception that depression is a purely emotional disorder but sufferers endure serious and debilitating physical symptoms that impede their ability to function normally. As many as two-thirds of people with depression aren’t helped by the first antidepressant they try. Up to a third don’t respond to several attempts at treatment.
People going through a major depressive episode can present with varying symptoms including difficulty sleeping, changes in appetite, lack of concentration, loss of energy, low self esteem, hopelessness, suicidality, changes in movement, and physical aches and pains
For anyone who has had depression or knows someone with depression, finding the right treatment can often be challenging. People can spend years working with mental health professionals, trying various psychotherapy and pharmacotherapies without any relief.
Traditional treatments include antidepressant medications, psychotherapy, electroconvulsive therapy, and alternative therapies such as acupunture, meditation and exercise. Patient response to these treatments is variable depending on the severity of their symptoms with many patients having treatment refractory depression.
More recent advances in medical science have given physicians and patients new hope when it comes to the treatment of depression.
The Ketamine Wellness Institute offers low dose Ketamine infusions in a safe and relaxing environment to patients suffering from treatment resistant depression by an anesthesiologist with years of experience.
Please note that although Ketamine has brought relief to thousands of patients, it is not a permanent cure. Once a patient’s mood is stabilized with Ketamine, maintenance infusions are required once every one to six months or more for most patients. At the Ketamine Wellness Institute, we will work closely with your primary care physician to provide you with the most comprehensive wellness plan possible. We are committed to your care.
